Philadelphia Eagles: Go get Earl Thomas, no matter the price
By Jeremy Klump
The Philadelphia Eagles need to make a trade for Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas, no matter the price that it takes to acquire the All-Pro safety.
The news that Philadelphia Eagles safety Rodney McLeod is out for the season is a big blow to the Eagles and their Super Bowl chances in 2018. With the injury, they lose one of their key starters in the secondary and replacing a playing like McLeod is near impossible.
Some people may believe that the loss of McLeod isn’t a big one, but they are undervaluing what McLeod brings to the table. He may drop interceptions, miss tackles, take poor angles at time and whatever other mistakes he makes that people gripe about, but McLeod also has more good plays than bad.
Without McLeod, the Eagles are losing a consistent player they can count on, and a consistent player that allows them to get creative with their other safety, Malcolm Jenkins. Losing McLeod means less one high safety formations and less having a guy to play centerfield. This has led to many people discussing what the Eagles should do to replace him. And it is easy.
Trade for Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas.
It was reported that the Cowboys offered a second-round pick for Thomas, but the Seahawks want more, which shouldn’t matter to the Eagles. Even if the Seahawks wanted a first-round pick, the Eagles should send it. If the Seahawks want both of the Eagles second rounders, they should send it. No matter the price, the Eagles should have the “just gonna send it” mentality.

McLeod’s injury isn’t the only reason they need to go get Thomas and it isn’t the biggest. The Los Angeles Rams are the reason Philly needs to go get Thomas.
On Thursday Night Football, the Rams showed the entire NFL that the road to the Super Bowl goes through Los Angeles. Quarterback Jared Goff threw for five touchdowns and their offense looked like a cheat code. If the Eagles are going to have a chance to win the Super Bowl, they need to add Thomas to the defense to help try and slow down the Rams.
Philadelphia understands the Super Bowl window they have and by getting Thomas, even if it costs a first round pick, they will have a better shot of beating the Rams and walking away with their second title. Thomas would give them the playmaker in the secondary they need and give them arguably the best starting safety tandem in the NFL.
It is not a move they should make, it is a move they need to make. Howie Roseman should be on the phone with the Seahawks and needs to get a deal done to bring Thomas to Philadelphia, no matter the price.
