Trubisky finally looked like he had a good grasp of the offense

Last week may have been rock bottom for Trubisky. After seeing the game live, I went and saw more tapes of the game. I honestly came out thinking this was probably his worst game. He wasn’t just bad, he looked lazy at times. He was loose with the football and took it easy while trying to throw a pass over a defender.

Trubisky looked like a completely different quarterback in Week 4. He hit the short passes and, more importantly, hit the deep pass consistently, hitting the open man with regularity. For the game, he finished throwing 19-for-26 for 354 yards and the six touchdowns. He also ran for 53 yards.

While the result was great for Trubisky, he had some trouble early on. Two times he missed on five-and-out passes. Those are easy passes to make. Additionally, he kept throwing high on a lot of passes early.

I don’t bring this up to ruin Trubisky’s party. I bring it up to show that the same happened in a couple of games this year. Instead of getting out of it and playing well like he did this week, he tended to play with lower confidence and didn’t want to push things. It was great to see him get out of it and produce.

Trubisky looked a lot more comfortable with the offense this week. He threw like a man who knew what to do and could find a way to make the play, no matter what Tampa threw at him.

Remember, this is still a learning period for Trubisky. He isn’t as bad as he was in earlier games, but be won’t be as good as he was in Week 4. If we get a Trubisky who is somewhere in the middle, the Bears will be looking good for quite a while.
