Kevin Toliver is making the most of his chance

There was some concern with the Bears’ secondary considering the injuries it suffered (again). Both Prince Amukamara and Marcus Cooper were ruled out before the game so the Bears were shorthanded.

The Bears activated Kevin Toliver before the Week 3 game against the Arizona Cardinals. He recorded 3 tackles in that game. Against the Bucs, he recorded 7 tackles and played a tight corner.

Toliver was an undrafted rookie free agent signee out of Louisiana State. He was one of the most highly recruited players coming out of high school. He had some success in college but just couldn’t put it all together. Some felt he had first-round talent but his inconsistencies kept them away. Suspensions and attitude and immaturity turned him into an undrafted rookie.

Perhaps that splash in his face was what it took for Toliver to get it together. The new maturity could be the Chicago Bears’ advantage. If he indeed changed, it really solidifies the Bears’ secondary.

Recording 10 tackles in his first two career game bodes well for Toliver. Even with Amukamara back, I believe the rookie gets a longer look from defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Toliver has the body and the skills to succeed at corner. Let’s see if he continues to improve and help the Chicago Bears hold onto first place.
