2. The team looked lost in coverage

Let this next thing stick in your mind and you can stew over it for a long time. The Jets got burned by Blake Bortles.

It’s understandable to get burned by Baker Mayfield when they played the Browns last week. Why? He’s a rookie, and there’s not tape on him. So, you can’t truly prepare for him the way you do other quarterbacks. With a situation like that, it’s a thrown something against the wall and hope it sticks kind of situation. Against Bortles, there are no excuses for the players or the coaches.

The team could do nothing right against the veteran quarterback, especially in coverage. Frankly they were outplayed and outcoached in that part of the game. Bortles took what the Jets gave him, and it was a lot.

Bortles was the professor, and the Jets secondary were the students as he took them to school. They were beaten all day on shallow stuff which led to long gains, and in the end, that doesn’t just fall on the coaches, but the players for not executing. It was a sloppy day all around with everyone to blame.
