Fans of the New York Jets are calling for Todd Bowles to be fired. There’s only one question to be asked. Who should replace Bowles if they fire him?

If things continue the way they are for the New York Jets, fans will get what they want. Todd Bowles will be out the door, and the team will have to replace him.

The fans want an offensive-minded head coach after the last six coaches who were defensive-minded didn’t lead them to a Super Bowl. Let’s be fair though, the Jets haven’t found much success with offensive-minded head coaches in the history of the team either. The last one was Rich Kotite, and we know how that turned out.

That said, the league is shifting to an offense-based league. The Jets should at least attempt to get with the times. The new coach should also consider being the man that calls the plays on offense and hire a strong defensive coordinator with full control of the defense, similar to Wade Philips in Los Angeles.

We have to ask the question, though. Who is the right man for the job? Well, let’s examine the possibilities.

3. Matt LaFleur

Current (and first-year) Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur is a name people are throwing out there as a potential candidate for the Jets head coaching job. While he would be a good hire, he may not be a great hire.

Tennessee’s offense is playing okay in their first four games under LaFleur, but not spectacularly. In addition to that, the Rams offense is performing even better with Sean McVay running things than they did last season with LaFleur at McVay’s side. Is that a aberration? Maybe.

Subsequently, he may deserve a chance to interview for the Jets job should it become available, but he shouldn’t be the No. 1 choice.
