Blake Bortles set the Jacksonville Jaguars pass attempts record in a blowout loss to Kansas City in Week 5.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were blown off the field in Kansas City, falling to the Chiefs by a score of 30-14. Basically, the Jaguars were a one-dimensional offense without Leonard Fournette running the ball. Blake Bortles attempted a franchise record of 61 passes, but turned the ball over five times in the process.

Bortles completed 33 passes for 430 yards with one touchdown. He threw four interceptions, but his pick-six doomed the Jaguars’ chance to score before halftime. Jacksonville was shut out in the first half, 20-0.

On the positive side, Bortles tucked the ball and ran for a touchdown. He ran four times for 34 yards in averaging 8.5 yards per carry. Perhaps he should run the ball more in Fournette’s absence.

The Jaguars defense did not give up a passing touchdown. They were gassed trying to keep up with the Kansas City receivers, however. Jalen Ramsey and Tyreek Hill did not materialize as the forecasted marquee matchup.

In reality, the worst-ranked Kansas City defense dominated the average Jaguars offense. Bortles was sacked five times for 29 yards. He stacked up many passing yards after the game was decided, but not enough points to show for it.

Jacksonville falls to 3-2 and still in second place in the AFC South. It seems like the Jaguars play poorly in the odd numbered weeks. They played very well in Weeks 2 and 4, which suggests an inconsistent team.

Expect a better effort from Bortles and the offense next Sunday. Doug Marrone and his staff will address the glaring deficiencies. There might be potential roster moves in the coming week.

Whether they make a blockbuster trade for a running back or not, Marrone has to bring in a power running back. Kansas City teed off on the Jaguars offensive line which pressured Bortles into making bad decisions.

Finally, Bortles would rather win the game than throw the ball 61 times. Jacksonville needs to file this game film away and move on to Week 6. This week should be very interesting as it unfolds.
