Jaguars vs. Chiefs: Does great offense prevail over great defense?

The Jacksonville Jaguars have the fiercest defense in the NFL, but they’ll be tasked with stopping the blistering hot Kansas City Chiefs offense in Week 5.

There’s no questioning the strengths of the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars after the first four weeks of the season. With Patrick Mahomes at the helm, this Kansas City team is going to thrive off of what their offense can do. Contrarily, the Jags have one of the league’s best defenses, headed by the likes of Jalen Ramsey.

Now these two teams will meet in Week 5 and it should bring fireworks. It’ll certainly be loud within the confines of Arrowhead Stadium for this matchup, but that would be the case regardless if we’re being honest. Even still, the rowdy Missourian fans will get a treat of watching two of the best units on opposite sides of the ball go toe-to-toe with one another.

Mahomes and the Chiefs offense have been nigh unstoppable to this point. With weapons like Tyreek Hill, Kareem Hunt and Travis Kelce at his disposal, the young quarterback is living his best NFL life. However, the Kansas City defense has left quite a bit to be desired at this point. They are susceptible to getting into shootouts, though that hasn’t cost them anything just yet.

As you’d expect, it’s the opposite story for the Jaguars. You can count on Ramsey, Calais Campbell, Myles Jack and Co. to make things tough on any given day. However, Blake Bortles and the offense are a wild card. They have shown they can do some good things at times, but they’ve also proven to be impossible to rely on.

Sitting as one of the two unbeaten teams in the league, it’s unsurprising that the Chiefs are favored at home in this matchup — especially with the advantage that they get from playing at Arrowhead. The Over/Under, however, is notable as it seems to indicate the oddsmakers thinking the Jaguars defense will find some success.

Prediction

As I’ve said before many times, I’m high on Mahomes and this Chiefs team as a whole and think that their offense is going to take them far. However, they aren’t going to face many (or any) defensive units the caliber of the Jaguars. And with the problems that Kansas City is still experiencing on defense, I don’t think that’s a recipe for success for them in this game.
