Dallas Cowboys: 3 Big takeaways from loss vs. Texans in Week 5

This team needs a wide receiver
The Cowboys made a good pick with their first-round selection of Leighton Vander Esch. The Boise State product has been flying all over the field making plays for a defense that’s been much improved. That doesn’t mean they were right to go into the season with this committee approach at wide receiver.
So far, the collection of players like Allen Hurns, Deonte Thompson, Cole Beasley and Tavon Austin isn’t working. Not only are they not getting open enough, but they’re also causing Dak Prescott to throw more picks. He had one go off the hands of Tavon Austin and end up in Kareem Jackson’s hands. Then another found it’s way to Justin Reid’s hands after Thompson failed to get the proper positioning on a pass he likely should have hauled in.
Whether via the draft, free agency or trade, the Dallas Cowboys have got to find a wide receiver next season. That is if they don’t go out before the trade deadline at the end of this month and acquire one that way.
So many were focused on them going after Earl Thomas in Seattle, and while he would have helped, he wouldn’t have made as much of an impact on a pass catcher who makes defenses respect their ability to move the ball through the air.
