Fantasy Football 2018: Waiver wire targets for Week 6
By Donnie Druin
Tight Ends
Austin Hooper vs. Tampa Bay
2018 stats: 21 receptions, 202 yards, 1 TD
ESPN Ownership: 49 percent
Despite Atlanta only putting up 17 points, Hooper had his best outing of the season, catching nine passes for 77 yards last week against Pittsburgh. Hooper has shown he can still cause damage despite the lack of points by Atlanta, although this was only his second game over 10 points.
Hooper might have benefited from a quiet day by Julio Jones, but Ryan undoubtedly has a connection with Hooper when the going gets rough. Among a group of top-heavy tight ends in fantasy, Hooper finds himself in the second tier thanks to the offense he plays in. Atlanta plays host to the Buccaneers in week six in yet another game that shield warrant big passing numbers on both sides.
Niles Paul at Dallas
2018 stats: 10 receptions, 98 yards
ESPN Ownership: 0.0 percent
Austin Seferian-Jenkins will be placed on IR after suffering another injury to his core, which will require surgery. Niles Paul reeled in seven receptions for 65 yards following ASJ’s departure, and will look to continue his success against Dallas. Paul, who was in a similar scenario as Jordan Reed’s back-up in Washington, will come in and look to replicate his success in Jacksonville.
Paul will gain some fantasy relativity, but the real question is how much? Paul has the lone steering wheel at the tight end position, and with no true receiving option in Jacksonville, he might just have found himself a place to accumulate targets. His production depends on Bortles and that itself is scary considering Bortles’ inconsistency. Yet Paul can offer some dependency at ever-so-depleted tight end position.
