New York Jets: Biggest 2019 NFL Draft needs after Week 5
The New York Jets are in the midst of a rebuild. The 2019 NFL Draft marks a fork in the road for the franchise. Will they move forward?
The New York Jets have a long way to go to be a playoff contender. Their performance this season undoubtedly proves that. Even though they were able to have some good performance, they are at least two offseasons away from being true contenders. That begins in 2019.
According to the site Tankathon, the Jets currently have the six picks all told and three in the first 100 overall picks. Without a second-round pick, they’re going to have to hit early in this draft and in the third round.
It’s becoming clear what they need the most. With the collective bargaining agreement up after the 2019 season. So this draft may go a long way in building a foundation for the unknown.
With the league shifting to a more offense oriented league, it may be better to build offense through the draft and mix-and-match defense through free agency with a solid foundational piece or two in the draft.
Where should the Jets go in the 2019 NFL Draft? Let’s explore.
3. Edge Rusher
In a perfect world the Jets would land an edge rusher or two in free agency — preferably both DeMarcus Lawrence and Dante Fowler. However, if they can’t even land one, they may opt to use the top of the draft the secure a top-flight edge rusher that can finally give them a more consistent pass rush.
There is quality at the top of the draft, with the unknown being Nick Bosa — the player every fan wants — given his injury. In the end, though, given their holes, it may be best to at least try to attack this one through free agency.
