NFL Quarterback Power Rankings, Week 6: Baker Mayfield is rising the ranks
By Randy Gurzi
6. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers (6)
All the talk about discord in the Steel City has died for at least one week. That’s because the Pittsburgh Steelers put up 41 points on the Atlanta Falcons. Ben Roethlisberger was good for three of the touchdowns in the one-sided victory and connected with Antonio Brown for two scores.
5. Tom Brady, New England Patriots (5)
If Josh Gordon and Tom Brady can keep connecting for scores like the one they had on Thursday Night Football, this team could look scary. Throw in the fact that Julian Edelman is back and the New England Patriots should have no problem shaking off their slow start and dominating the AFC East again.
4. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints (4)
It’s not a news flash to say Drew Brees is elite. We knew that before he broke the record for career passing yardage on Monday Night Football. With him on fire, the New Orleans Saints seem like they could repeat as NFC South champs this season and the return of Mark Ingram from suspension only makes them better. Brees is nearing the end of his Hall of Fame career, but there could be another postseason run up the sleeve of the new all-time passing yards leader.
3. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers (3)
If Mason Crosby didn’t have the worst game of his career, we would all be talking about another huge comeback from Aaron Rodgers. Despite their struggles against the Lions, he had them back in the game late and they ended up losing by just eight — despite trailing 24-0 at the half. The four missed field goals and missed extra point from Crosby would have meant a Green Bay win.
2. Jared Goff, Los Angeles Rams (2)
The Los Angeles Rams were given all they could handle on Sunday and they walked away with a huge win. For Jared Goff, he wasn’t perfect, but he did what needed to be done to keep a tough opponent at bay. That’s what good teams do and the Rams are a good team. They also have a very good quarterback even if people want to say he’s a ‘system quarterback.’
1. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs (1)
The Jacksonville Jaguars defense is the toughest that Patrick Mahomes has faced this season, which is why he had no touchdown passes and his first two picks of the season. He did run in a score and finished with 313 yards, so it isn’t like he had a bad game. Oh, and he led them to a 30-14 win and a 5-0 start to the season. He’s still the best in the 2018 NFL season at this point.
