The Chicago Bears are in pretty good shape after the first quarter of the 2018 NFL season. We take a look at what they’ve done.

In the offseason, the Chicago Bears front office did everything possible to reverse the losing atmosphere that enveloped Halas Hall. They completely revamped the offense, adding weapons and protection for second-year quarterback Mitch Trubisky. They also improved the kicking game and maintained the continuity of the defense. That was until they decided to make a little tweak — by adding perhaps the best defensive player in the NFL.

After the first quarter of the season, the Bears sit in first place. Not only that, they are legitimately one play or two from being undefeated. Sure, we thought the team would be better than they’ve been over the past several seasons, but I’m not sure anyone expected a 3-1 record (wait, maybe someone did).

The Bears provided their fans with more excitement in the first four games of 2018 than they have in the previous four seasons. Yes, there is still some work to be done. While Trubisky went wild against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he’s had an up-and-down season. We need to see more consistency before people outside of Chicago consider the Bears a serious contender just yet.

I wrote about breaking down the season into quarters. The first quarter is done and they’re looking good. Let’s see how the other three quarters go.

At the beginning of the season, we wanted to see the team take a step forward. Even if they had a losing record, if they looked like they were getting better that would be good. So far, they’ve shown the improvement and are in first place — win-win!
