The Washington Redskins suffered an embarrassing loss on Monday night to the New Orleans. Here are three takeaways from Washington’s defeat.

Things couldn’t have been lined up any more perfect for the Washington Redskins on Monday night. All three NFC East rivals lost on Sunday and Washington had the chance to go up a game-and-a-half in the division. In addition to that, the Redskins were coming off a bye week. So, with 15 days of rest, Washington faced a red-hot New Orleans Saints’ squad on a night where Drew Brees was poised to break the NFL all-time record for passing yards.

Sure, playing in New Orleans is always tough, however, getting an extra week to prepare was ideal. Unfortunately for Washington, it didn’t matter as the Saints demolished the Redskins 43-19 in a game that was never close.

Brees had his way with the Redskins, completing 26-of-29 passes for 363 yards and three touchdowns. He finished with a quarterback rating of 153.2 and broke Manning’s record before halftime. Washington looked like a college team facing Brees on Monday night.

Offensively, the Redskins were punchless. Quarterback Alex Smith had his worst night as a Redskin, while Adrian Peterson carried the ball just four times for six yards. Washington rushed for just 39 yards on 18 attempts as a team and was forced to play from behind beginning with its second possession.

The loss dropped the Redskins to 2-2 on the young season and despite how ugly it was, they still remain in first place in the NFC East by a half game.

Here are three big takeaways from Washington’s ugly loss on Monday night.
