The Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants and rest of the NFC East have struggled to start 2018, but they will try to bounce back on Thursday in Week 6.

Coming off of their first Super Bowl win in franchise history, the hopes were high for the Philadelphia Eagles. Having said that, it was clear early on that things might be off with this team. The thought was that the return of Carson Wentz in Week 3 would help that, but that has yet to be the case. Now they are coming off a short week trying to right the ship against a divisional rival, the New York Giants, the road.

Wentz has performed exceptionally well to this point given what’s been going on around him. Even still, the offense has been a lesser version than it was last season. With Jay Ajayi out for the season now, joining a number of other injured Eagles on offense, this unit really has to start scheming better ways to make explosive plays, as they did with Foles last year.

As for the Philadelphia defense, that’s an even more confusing group than the one on the other side of the ball. There is undeniable talent with the likes of Brandon Graham and others, but we’ve yet to see them perform at the same level. If this team is to get back to having a firm grasp on the NFC East, they will have to step up defensively moving forward.

Of course, in terms of stepping up, the Giants have been abysmal for the most part as a whole this season. The offense showed life last weekend with explosive plays from Odell Beckham Jr. and Saquon Barkley. However, neither they nor anyone else on the offense has been doing anything with consistency in the slightest.

At the same time, the New York defense has been a sieve this season. In terms of both being consistent and in terms of just making big plays in big moments, they’ve been able to do neither. Against this Philadelphia offense, even if it’s been banged up, the G-Men need to find a way to generate success on defense.

Despite how lackluster both of these teams have looked to this point in the season, it’s clear that Philadelphia has looked the better team to this point. Thus, it’s not a shock to see that they are two-point favorites on the road against New York. Either way, it would appear that the oddsmakers are expecting a relatively low-scoring affair.

Prediction

Both on paper and in terms of performance on the field this season, the Eagles have been a superior team to the Giants in 2018. As such, they should be able to go on the road and handle business. Having said that, with the injuries that Philly is dealing with currently, things could be much more difficult than expected. They’ll win, but not in as emphatic of a fashion as they probably should.
