New York Jets: 5 Players to watch vs. Colts in Week 6
The New York Jets are coming off a win, and they have had trouble stringing wins together. Which players need to step up for the train to keep rolling?
Consistent winning isn’t something the New York Jets have been known for lately. In 2015, they put at least back to back wins together three times (including a five-game winning streak). Since then, they’ve followed a win with another win a total of three times — with one of those being a three-game winning streak.
It’s commonly said that every week in the NFL is a different animal. You have to bring your A game week in and week out. That said, sometimes there’s a formula to winning for the team that works.
Five players are going to have to step up in the game and be part of the game plan in order for the Jets to be successful against the Colts this week. Who are they, though?
5-3. The tight ends (all three)
According to Football Outsiders, Eric Tomlinson play 46 snaps, Chris Herndon played 41 snaps, and Jordan Leggett played 29 snaps on offense for the Jets in their win over the Broncos. Per Sharp Football Stats, the Jets played multiple tight ends in that game on 37 of their 61 plays on offense. The Jets are 2-0 this season when playing multiple tight ends more than 50 percent of the time.
The Jets have a below average offensive line, end even though Brandon Shell seems to be turning the corner, they still need help. So having the tight ends on the field helps them and can help give Sam Darnold more time to throw the football and open more holes for the running game.
