Jacksonville Jaguars: Expect Blake Bortles to rebound in Dallas
By Larry Brake
Blake Bortles will bounce back from an awful performance and lead the Jacksonville Jaguars to victory over America’s team in Week 6.
This Sunday in Week 6, the Jacksonville Jaguars travel to play the Dallas Cowboys after a miserable loss in Kansas City. There are many reasons why the Jaguars lost the game, but this team should play better in all areas against Dallas. Even Blake Bortles should rebound and have a good game.
In Kansas City, Bortles had a terrible game performance. He turned the ball over five times, which included four intercepted passes. Most of all, his quarterback rating was a season low of 54.7.
There have been several personnel changes this week that will make Jacksonville a better rushing team. Jamaal Charles and Dave Williams were added to bolster the running attack. T.J. Yeldon will not be forced to carry the ground game by himself.
Against Dallas, Bortles will have to make quick decisions against the Dallas defense. They are a top-10 defense in giving up an average of 337.4 yards per game. The Cowboys have recorded 15 sacks through five games as well.
Jacksonville will be playing with their third starting left tackle. Bortles will have to get the ball out quicker than if Cam Robinson was protecting his blindside. Perhaps Nathaniel Hackett will employ Charles in screen packages to slow the Cowboys pass rush.
Jacksonville’s defense will pressure the Cowboys quarterback, Dak Prescott. The Cowboys receivers will not be able to escape the Jacksonville blanket coverage by the secondary. The top priority for the defense will be to control Ezekiel Elliott and limit his effectiveness. As Elliott goes, so go the Cowboys.
After each bad performance this season, Bortles has bounced back the next week. Currently, he has bad games in the odd numbered weeks. Remember how well he played in Weeks 2 and 4 and contrast them with Weeks 1, 3 and 5.
Expect Bortles to rebound in Dallas and have a good game. The Jaguars defense will be able to keep Dallas off balanced, especially if they force turnovers. The less pressure Bortles puts on himself, the better he plays.
The gameplay will be better suited to the weapons that Bortles will have at his disposal. His weapons will be healthy and ready to play. Jacksonville should bounce back in a victorious way.
