Here are three big takeaways from the Philadelphia Eagles crucial win on Thursday Night Football against the New York Giants
I hate the term “must-win game” because every game should be a must-win, but the term meant a little more than normal for the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6 against the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football. It was truly a “must-win game” for the defending Super Bowl champions as a loss would have put them at 2-4, and put the playoffs in some doubt this early in the season.
Philly traveled to New Jersey (because the Giants do not play in New York) to take on their division rival and they showed up to play right away. The Eagles defense, which was a big part of their Super Bowl season, has been under some fire as of late, but they answered the bell on the first drive of the game, intercepting an Eli Manning pass.
That turnover led to a quick touchdown pass on an amazing playing by Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz. The former No. 2 overall pick and 2017 NFL MVP* had he not torn his ACL escaped the pass rush, rolled right, and found No. 1 wide receiver Alshon Jeffery in the back of the end zone.
The Eagles did not look back after that touchdown and never trailed in the game. They would go on to win the game 34-13 and show everyone that their Super Bowl hangover has been cured. Philadelphia made a statement on Thursday and showed they are still the defending champions and a dangerous football team when they are clicking on all cylinders.
