8. New York Jets: Clelin Ferrell, EDGE, Clemson

This season has been a funny one for the New York Jets. They went out in Week 1 and housed the Detroit Lions. From there, they dropped three straight games — including giving up the big win to the Cleveland Browns in Baker Mayfield’s first appearance.

Week 5 then rolls around and once again they look unstoppable as they drop 34 on a talented Denver Broncos defense. In each of their wins, the defense was good and Sam Darnold was safe with the football — even if his completion percentage wasn’t pretty on Sunday.

While he has put up a couple good games, the jury will be out on Darnold until we see him play with more consistency. Even so, it seems like a fair assumption he will be the guy as he’s still progressing and learning at the NFL level.

He could use more weapons, just like Josh Allen of the previously mentioned Bills could. Then again, the Jets could also an edge rusher to help keep them out of any shootouts. With this selection, they decide to go for the edge player as they take Clemson’s Clelin Ferrell.

The first of a few defenders from Clemson who could go in Round 1, Ferrell has six sacks in the first six games for the Tigers as he cements himself as a premium edge rusher. While head coach Todd Bowles has tried using his scheme to generate the pass rush, it would make sense to get a guy that can do it on his own.
