Chicago Bears: 3 Big takeaways from loss vs. Miami Dolphins in Week 6
The Chicago Bears suffered a gut-wrenching loss at the hands of the Miami Dolphins in Week 6. Here are three takeaways from that game.
Well, we had to sit on our hands for two weeks before finally getting to see the Chicago Bears in action again. The last time we saw them Mitch Trubisky was throwing touchdown passes around like they were candy.
The hope was the bye week wouldn’t mess up the momentum they gained with their blowout win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4. With the adjustments made in that bye week they’d keep on cruising.
No such luck.
The offense started out sluggish before breaking out in the second half. The defense, however, struggled all game long, except for an epic goal-line stand in overtime. While the unit didn’t give up a rushing touchdown (and still have no rushing touchdowns given up for the season), it did get gashed too many times.
After speaking about how well the kicking game has been this season, the problem reared its ugly head. Cody Parkey had just one field goal to make, but he missed a chance to come back to Miami to be the hero. He pushed a 45-yard attempt in overtime. The Dolphins went 28 yards after that and kicked the game-winner. Reminders of last season.
Don’t get me wrong, I still think this is a good team. However, they will have growing pains and lose winnable games like this one. This is by far a finished product, and the Bears are showing that week by week. When they do get it together, though, this will be a team that’ll be difficult to beat.
For the moment, we’ll continue to see bad play followed by good play followed by bad play. This is what teams do when they aren’t a finished product.
