The defense had an off-day

Okay, so in this game it was the Chicago Bears offense that tried to bail out the defense. We haven’t seen that in awhile. The defense was especially bad against the Dolphins’ running attack. With Brock Osweiler at the helm, Miami didn’t want to put too much on his plate. Frank Gore and Kenyon Drake did a great job of taking pressure off of Brock Osweiler, who was in for an injured Ryan Tannehill.

The Dolphins finished the game with 161 yards. That is an incredible number considering the Bears rush defense allowed just 256 yards all season. In total, the Dolphins had 541 total yards. The Bears could not get to Osweiler all day. They failed to record any sacks, and rarely put pressure on him.

Dolphins head coach Adam Gase stopped throwing downfield. Osweiler threw two interceptions so Gase didn’t want him throwing the ball more than five yards. After that, Gase threw a lot of swing passes and some barely past the line of scrimmage. Credit goes to the receivers, who took the short passes and turned them into big gains.

The defense is allowed a bad day here or there. There are three parts to winning a game — offense, defense, and special teams. When two of them go down, then there is trouble. The offense put up 28 points, which normally wins games. The defense had a tough game, allowing 31. There won’t be many times that happens so just chalk it up to the old saying, “Momma said there’d be days like this.”
