Seattle Seahawks: 3 Big takeaways from win vs. Raiders in Week 6
By Samuel Teets
There’s plenty of talent in the backfield
Three Seahawks running backs made significant contributions to the offense on Sunday. Chris Carson still carried the load for his team with 14 carries. He ground out 59 yards on the ground giving him a 4.2 average yards per carry. Backup Mike Davis, who filled in for Carson when he was hurt earlier this year, chipped in 21 rushing yards on six carries.
Production from both of these backs isn’t anything out of the ordinary. Carson has two 100-yard rushing performances this season, including one against Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh last week.
When Carson was out in Week 4, Davis was the team’s primary back. He ran for over 100 yards in that game and then added 68 more last week against the Los Angeles Rams. In those two games Davis had three rushing touchdowns.
One running back’s name who I have not mentioned so far is Rashaad Penny. The rookie first-round pick had been a non-factor going into this week, but he had his best game of the season. Penny carried the ball nine times for 43 yards (4.8 yards per carry) and he also caught two passes on two targets for 27 yards.
If the Seahawks can find a way to incorporate all three running backs into a game plan, then we’ll get to see the best version of the team’s offense.
