Jarran Reed

As good as Clark is, it’s hard to be the lone pass rusher on a defense. Thankfully, Reed has really stepped up in his third season out of Alabama. The former second-round pick had three sacks going into the game on Sunday and then he added another one. The young defensive tackle was also responsible for a fumble recovery and finished the game with five tackles.

In his first two seasons, Reed only recorded a total of three sacks, now he has four in 2018 alone. He also already has 25 combined tackles this season. Last year, he finished with 45, a total he should easily surpass this year.

Reed’s emergence has come at the perfect time. With this loss of Earl Thomas, the Seahawks need as much help up front as possible to defend their weakened secondary. The team has also been hoping for the emergence of another pass rusher to compliment Clark. It seems like Reed will be that man.

Reed stepping up gives the Seahawks a young, dynamic duo along the defensive line. If things go as planned, Clark and Reed will one day parallel Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett, the pass rushing duo that helped the Seahawks go to back to back Super Bowls. Time will tell what this new pass rushing combination can achieve.
