Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers doesn’t need much help
By Hunter Noll
The Green Bay Packers passing game was in top form against the San Francisco 49ers, despite their limited weapons, because Aaron Rodgers can wow us still.
Randall Cobb was out, as was Geronimo Allison, in Week 6 for the Green Bay Packers. The running game doesn’t elicit much fear and the defense couldn’t contain an offense led by C.J. Beathard. Despite that, the Packers beat the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night — and Aaron Rodgers was right in the middle of it all.
Rodgers threw for 425 yards and two touchdowns (no interceptions), while picking up 34 yards on three carries as well. The main attraction however, was the final drive of the game.
With the score tied 30-30, the Packers got the ball back at their own 10-yard line with 1:07 left to play in regulation. From their, Rodgers orchestrated an 81-yard drive that ended with a 27-yard field goal by Mason Crosby to win the game as time expired. This was just the latest in a long line of evidence that Rodgers isn’t human, especially considering he did so without two of his top three receivers.
To be fair, Davante Adams is criminally underrated and one of the best receivers in the NFL. Meanwhile, Jimmy Graham is still a massive weapon the passing game at tight end. After those two though, I wouldn’t blame you for not being too familiar with the other offensive weapons Rodgers had on Monday.
The Packers have dealt with a few problems this year, including Rodgers playing through injuries himself. That hasn’t stopped him from putting up fantastic numbers though. On the year, the quarterback has 1,997 yards (second most in the NFL) and 12 touchdown passes.
Rodgers also has just one interception on the year, making him one of two quarterbacks with 160 or more passing attempts this year and fewer than two interceptions. However, he’s the only quarterback in the NFL with 200-plus passing attempts this year and less than two interceptions (Drew Brees has none, but in 190 attempts).
Heading into their bye week, the Green Bay Packers are 3-2-1. Once again their season seems to be in the hands of Aaron Rodgers. He’s already proving he’s up to the task this year, and not much help is required.
