NFL Week 7: Predicting the 10 biggest headlines from Sunday
Big day from Mayfield leads Browns back to .500
Baker Mayfield came into the NFL on fire after a comeback win against the Jets. However, since then, he’s had a rocky road. He’s 1-2 as a starter, and one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the history of college football is completing less than 56 percent of his passes and has more interceptions than touchdowns.
A reprieve is coming for Mayfield though — one of the worst defenses in the NFL. The Buccaneers defense as a whole has given up the fifth most total points (173) and the most points per game (34.6). When it comes to pass defense, they are one of the worst, if not the absolute worst, in the NFL. They’ve given up the fifth most passing yards, the highest passer rating, and have the fewest interceptions on the season. They only have one interception in their first five games in 2018.
When it comes to completion percentage, Mayfield has suffered from receivers dropping the football. According to Pro Football Focus (subscription required), he has the highest drop rate among quarterbacks with a minimum of 69 dropbacks.
Mayfield and the Browns will have a big day against the Bucs defense, and they will come away with a victory. With the victory they will not just get back to .500, but get back in the AFC North picture.
