Vikings vs. Jets: Expect a shootout in East Rutherford
The Minnesota Vikings travel to East Rutherford to take on the New York Jets, and we should expect a shootout between theses two teams.
It’s Week 7, and the New York Jets are finishing up the toughest parts of their schedule as the Minnesota Vikings are coming to town. This certainly isn’t your father’s or even grandfather’s Jets or the Purple People Eaters of yesteryear. These teams are — much like the rest of the league — based around their offenses, and we will get to see them both showcased this week.
When the schedule first came out, based on what we saw last year, most people probably thought this would be an easy win for the Vikings. However, as we often see in the NFL, things drastically changed from last season with the Vikings.
Much like last season, the Vikings don’t force turnovers, and Kirk Cousins leads the league in lost fumbles with five. Conversely, the Jets have been taking the ball away, but also commit turnovers as well. The Jets have 12 turnovers on the season.
The Vikings pass defense has not performed well this season. They have seven players who have allowed a passer rating of over 100. This has led the team to have an overall passer rating of 103.1, and they are tied for 13th most touchdowns allowed through the air. The Jets are actually tied for ninth most with 11 touchdowns allowed, but due to their 10 interceptions, their team passer rating against is much lower (82.6; sixth lowest in the NFL).
With a banged up Jets secondary, and a Vikings defense who has given up big plays to the opposition through the air, we should expect this game to be a high scoring one. Don’t take the under.

Prediction
This is not going to be an old fashioned lunch pail game. That’s for sure. This is going to be a new school shootout similar to what we saw between the Chiefs and Patriots, albeit not quite as high scoring.
The Jets have a banged up secondary with Buster Skrine and Marcus Maye out for this game. Trumaine Johnson may be out also. So, that means the Jets are reaching deep into their depth chart at those positions. So, expect the Vikings to score.

The biggest factor in this game will be a position that hasn’t been a huge factor for the Jets in a long time — the tight end. Chris Herndon will have a breakout game this week, and the Jets will have their tight end go for over 100 yards for the first time since 2011. The Vikings have allowed the 6th most receptions and 4th most yards and yards per catch to tight ends in the NFL this season.
