The San Francisco 49ers have a daunting matchup in Week 7 against the unbeaten Los Angeles Rams, here we look at some of the key numbers ahead of the game.

Life does not get much easier for the 1-5 San Francisco 49ers going into Week 7.

After suffering a gut-wrenching 33-30 defeat to the Green Bay Packers on Monday night, the 49ers now must face an unbeaten Los Angeles Rams team on a short week.

Few will give the 49ers a prayer of victory but, records aside, what do the numbers say about these two teams? We looked at the key statistics, including Football Outsiders DVOA for both offense and defense, to find out.

Offense

Rams – 464.3 yards per game (2nd passing DVOA, 1st rush DVOA)
49ers – 381.8 yards per game (24th passing DVOA, 15th rush DVOA)

The 49ers offense has not exactly performed poorly through six weeks. San Francisco is averaging 24.6 points per game and the Niners ground attack is comparable to that of the Rams. Los Angeles is averaging 154.3 yards per game on the ground while San Francisco has racked up 142.5 yards per game.

However, the disparity that has helped the Rams become a near unstoppable juggernaut is in the passing game. While the 49ers have averaged 239.3 yards per game through the air, the Rams have shredded opposing pass defenses for 310 yards a game, illustrating just how daunting a challenge they post for San Francisco’s much-maligned secondary.
