With the Dallas Cowboys hurting at wide receiver, they’re apparently looking at Aamari Cooper of the Raiders. Making a trade here would be a wise move — as long as the price is right

There’s no arguing the Dallas Cowboys need to do something about their wide receiver position. Their moves this offseason haven’t panned out as they hoped and third-round pick Michael Gallup isn’t developing as quickly as they need.

The front office knows this as well, which is why Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that they’re doing their due diligence on Oakland Raiders receiver Amari Cooper.

Oakland is in the middle of a fire sale as they’re stockpiling picks for next season. They’ve already traded away former top-10 pick Khalil Mack and the rumors for the past couple weeks are saying Cooper could be next.

More from Dallas Cowboys

For Dallas, the move makes too much sense to ignore. While Cooper is struggling this season (and had his problems in 2017), he’s arguably better than anyone else on the Dallas roster. He’s also just 24-years old, meaning he’s still growing as a player.

On top of this, Dallas has a way of getting great information on the former Alabama star. His head coach in college is Nick Saban, who has a good relationship with Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett.

The two worked together with the Miami Dolphins and Garrett has asked Saban’s opinion on other former Crimson Tide players like linebacker Rolando McClain. Should Saban have good things to say about Cooper’s work ethic, that could enhance their interest in the young pass catcher.

If there were any reason not to pull the trigger, it would have to be the compensation. Rumors suggest the Raiders want a first-round pick in exchange for Cooper and Dallas already showed they are hesitant to give up early picks — see the holdup in the Earl Thomas deal.

Should Dallas be able to negotiate it down to a second-round pick, then maybe it would be time to tell Amari Cooper to come on down.

For the right price, this move makes sense as he gives them their most accomplished receiver and has a full career ahead of him.
