Arizona Cardinals All-Pro cornerback Patrick Peterson reportedly wants out of town. Here are three trade scenarios the Green Bay Packers could use to acquire his services.

For the better part of a decade, Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson has been regarded as one of the best at his position in the NFL. He’s one of the few corners who still shadows an opposing team’s No. 1 receiver, which seemingly takes away an entire half of the field.

He’s been so good that since Peterson entered the league in 2011, he’s been named to the Pro Bowl every season (seven times) and has consistently proven that he’s one of the best man-to-man cover corners in the league.

The three-time First-Team All-Pro has recently come out asking for a trade, though. As the Cardinals endure a 1-6 start to the 2018 season, Peterson has remained one of the team’s top performers, and apparently isn’t happy about the rest of the team’s performance.

Early Monday afternoon, ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted out that Peterson, 28, has asked the Cardinals to deal him by the trade deadline on Oct. 30. In fact, Schefter went as far as to say that Peterson “desperately” wants out.

This leaves a huge window of opportunity for the Green Bay Packers to shore up a young secondary. Although rookie Jaire Alexander has been excellent when on the field, he’s missed back-to-back games with a groin injury.

Kevin King also battled a groin injury earlier this season, along with several shoulder injuries in the past. Then there’s new signee Bashaud Breeland, who was signed to the active roster just weeks ago but has failed to appear in any games due to a hamstring injury.

Of course, the Packers still have rookie cornerbacks Josh Jackson and Tony Brown, as well as veteran Tramon Williams available, but none are an ideal No. 1 cornerback. There’s also the disappointing play of Green Bay’s safeties this season. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix has been wildly inconsistent, while Kentrell Brice has been downright bad.

Finally, Green Bay’s pass rush has been awful this season. Both Clay Matthews and Nick Perry — two of the Packers’ top five highest-paid players for the 2018 season — have had miserable starts to the year. Their disappointing play has forced defensive coordinator Mike Pettine to scheme free rushers to the quarterback through exotic blitzes and sub-packages.

A lockdown cornerback may improve the entire Packers defense. Peterson would improve all areas of the defense while also holding down an opposing team’s No. 1 receiver. He’d allow more opportunity for Green Bay’s safeties to roam about the field, while also covering opposing receivers for that all important split-second longer to allow the Packers’ pass rushers to get home.
