The New York Jets lost 37-17 to the Minnesota Vikings, and these are the biggest takeaways from the final game of the homestand.
In a terrible loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, the New York Jets showed how far they were from the top of the NFL food chain. They were thoroughly outclassed by the Vikings in every way imaginable.
The Vikings showed that the Jets need a lot of help, not just at the top of their roster either. The Jets are in dire need for depth at several positions.
The Jets were missing two cornerbacks, and playing a rookie in the slot, so some of the mistakes in the pass defense can be excused. That said, they did have a good game from Darryl Roberts.
The pass rush didn’t get home much, but they did deflect passes at the line of scrimmage. So that’s a huge plus. However, there are a lot of negatives that can come from this game. So let’s dive into them.
3. Time to bench Spencer Long until he’s healthy
It’s plain to see that Spencer Long can’t snap the ball in shotgun, and you can’t play 100 percent of plays under center if that’s the case. Clearly, he’s still bothered by the injury that’s plaguing his finger. He did show up on the Jets injury report this week, as he has all season long.
He’s going to have to ride the bench for a little while to heal up. I know the backup center situation for the Jets isn’t anything to write home about, but clearly it’s negatively affecting his ability to snap the football, and it’s causing issues with Darnold and the running game out of the shotgun.
The Jets can’t afford the fumbles that result from poor snapping, and even though it may be the worst case scenario, it’s time to put him on the bench.
