Running Backs

Marlon Mack at Oakland

2018 stats: 41 attempts, 249 yards (6.1 ypc), 1 TD, 4 receptions, 39 yards, 1 TD
ESPN Ownership: 53.9 percent

Nyheim Hines had his fun while Marlon Mack was dealing with a hamstring injury, yet all good things must come to an end at some point. Mack, now fully healthy, showcased his three down back abilities Sunday against Buffalo, rushing for 126 yards and a touchdown while adding a pair of catches for 33 yards and a score as well.

Sunday’s contest proved Mack is capable of taking some of the workload off Andrew Luck. With Mack now healthy and surging after a breakout game, the Colts may very well be inclined to control the ball on the ground against a Raiders defense that has allowed 131.8 yards per game on the ground on nearly five yards a carry. If Mack can stay healthy, he’s a solid RB2 in almost every format of fantasy football.

Raheem Mostert at Arizona

2018 stats: 25 attempts, 157 yards (6.3 ypc), 6 receptions, 25 yards
ESPN Ownership: 3.9 percent

Raheem Mostert is just the latest back in the committee of running backs in San Francisco to emerge as fantasy relevant. Despite both Matt Breida and Alfred Morris being active, Mostert led all backs in touches/yards against a tough Rams defensive front. Nothing has been made of the 49ers week eight plans, but with Mostert’s increase in usage/production, it appears Kyle Shanahan has taken a liking to Mostert.

Mostert will face a Cardinals run defense that ranks dead last in the league, allowing nearly 150 yards rushing per game along with the most touchdowns allowed on the ground (12). Arizona clearly has problems dealing with running backs, a welcome sign for Mostert to build off a solid week against Los Angeles. If Shanahan continues to roll with Mostert, he’s a must-start.
