Fantasy Football 2018: Waiver wire targets for Week 8

Tight Ends
Chris Herndon at Chicago
2018 stats: 11 receptions, 145 yards, 2 TDs

Chris Herndon has now turned more than a few heads with his performances of late, scoring in two consecutive games for the Jets. With a few Jets receivers still dealing with injuries, Herndon has the opportunity to keep his fantasy relevance up, at least for the near future. The Jets travel to Chicago to take on a Bears that defense that ranks as one of the best units in the league.
While the Patriots were able to find offensive success, it’s unrealistic to expect Sam Darnold to replicate what Tom Brady did in the windy city. Will the rookie quarterback look to his safety valve at the tight end position? While that remains to be seen, Herndon has earned enough respect the past few weeks to at minimum warrant Darnold’s attention through the air. Look for passing volume to aid Herndon’s quest for another fantasy-relevant day if you’re in need of streaming a tight end.
Michael Roberts vs Seattle
2018 stats: 4 receptions, 63 yards, 3 TDs
ESPN Ownership: 0.0 percent
If Michael Roberts can keep his catch-to-touchdown ratio up, he’ll undoubtedly be the best waiver-wire snatch in modern NFL history. Roberts finds himself as a fantasy player to watch despite sharing time with Luke Willson. Roberts’ value finds himself as a red-zone target that relies on touchdowns, scoring two last week against the Dolphins.
There’s a lot to like in the potential of Roberts, as he plays in a offensive-friendly passing attack while obviously earning the trust of quarterback Matthew Stafford in the red-zone. Boom or bust is the appropriate label for Roberts at this time, but if he’s able to prove his worth for a third straight week, it might be time to consider Roberts as potential fantasy sleeper.
