Patrick Peterson has asked the Arizona Cardinals to trade him before the NFL Trade Deadline — but will they?

This season has been woefully awful for the Arizona Cardinals. Patrick Peterson has been a bright spot on the Cardinals defense. However, he reportedly wants out of Arizona.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on the situation, saying that Peterson “desperately” wants to be moved from Arizona. What’s more, Schefter noted that the All-Pro corner believes that things are, more or less, falling apart with the Cardinals.

However, Arizona is not willing to trade him despite his request. Schefter reported that Steve Wilks is unaware that Peterson wants out. Should they grant his request?

Through seven games, Peterson has intercepted two passes. He has made 29 solo tackles with six assists. Pro Football Focus (subscription required) ranks him as the fourth best corner in the NFL. Arizona would be able to move him. They would be able to get their asking price. Most of all, they can actually decide which team he would go to.

At 1-6, Arizona has a very tall mountain to climb to match their record of 8-8 in 2017. They could accumulate draft picks to rebuild the team, but only if they trade away some assets. Would the Redbirds rather get something for Peterson now, or lose him to free agency later?

Peterson is performing at a high level. Arizona is in dire need of linemen, especially on offense. The Cardinals could get multiple picks in the first round in the 2019 Draft by dealing Peterson.

Realistically, why would Arizona not trade him if he wants out? Now, Peterson is a pro, a top pro, and he would not become a distraction to the Redbirds. Who is pursuing him?

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports tweeted that New Orleans and Philadelphia have reached out concerning Peterson’s availability. Arizona could deny his request. They could ask him to honor his current contract. Why would they do that?

It will be interesting to see the Cardinals roster over the next week.
