With a couple of blue-chip players still left on Big Blue’s roster, the New York Giants are primed to completely tear it down at the trade deadline.

For better or worse, the New York Giants‘ season is over. Whether Eli Manning wants to believe it, his time is just about up, and it’s time for Pat Shurmur, Dave Gettleman, and the rest of the Giants brass to start looking elsewhere. The one saving grace for the Giants? They are more than aware that this season is a lost cause.

Currently standing at 1-6, the Giants are primed to have a premium pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Everything points to the Giants landing Oregon Ducks quarterback Justin Herbert (should he declare) and being set for at least the next few years. The Giants are building up draft capital something fierce, and they may not be done yet.

This season seems to be becoming an arms race in the NFL’s basement. The Arizona Cardinals, the Oakland Raiders, and of course the Giants, are all taking part in historic fire sales to prove they have what it takes to be the worst of the worst in professional football.

The Raiders started early with their selling of Khalil Mack to the Bears, which netted them two first-round picks from the Windy City. The Cardinals barely even need to have a fire sale, as their anemic offense drags them to loss after loss. But they still might move on from star cornerback Patrick Peterson before the trade deadline. That leaves the Giants, who have been putting in serious work on the phone lines in recent days.

In a matter of 24 hours, the Giants have dealt away two top defenders in cornerback Eli Apple and defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison. And yet, there is still an underlying feeling that Big Blue aren’t finished making moves just yet. In fact, they have three more major trades to make if they want to be top dogs in the arms race.
