Houston Texans: Deshaun Watson, standouts from Week 8 vs. Dolphins
2. RB Lamar Miller
In his third season with the Houston Texans, running back Lamar Miller finally got a chance to show his former employers what he could do as a member of the opposition. Originally a fourth-round draft choice by the Miami Dolphins in 2012, the former member of the Miami Hurricanes spent four seasons in South Florida with the Fins. While Miller put up very solid numbers, many felt he was underutilized in Miami’s offense — especially when it came to the running game.
That has not been the case with the Texans. In his first season with the franchise, he totaled a career-best 268 attempts for 1,073 yards and five touchdowns in just 14 games. A season ago, there were 238 carries — the second-highest total of his brief career — for 888 yards and three scores.
Make it 113 attempts for 504 yards and two touchdowns for the seven-year pro after he gashed the Dolphins for 133 yards on 18 carries and one score on Thursday evening. It also marked the second time in five days that Miller reached the century mark on the ground. He ran 22 times for 100 yards and a touchdown in the Week 7 at Jacksonville.
That’s a combined 40 carries for 233 yards and a pair of scores the past two games. Miller and the Houston ground game may be just getting warmed up.
