Philadelphia Eagles: Carson Wentz, standouts from Week 8 vs. Jaguars
On Sunday at Wembley Stadium, the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars. Who were the stars for the Birds?
A year ago, the Philadelphia Eagles finished 13-3, won the NFC East, overcame the loss of their starting quarterback in early December and wound up capturing the team’s first-ever Super Bowl title with a 41-33 triumph over the defending champion New England Patriots. It was the franchise’s first NFL championship since 1960.
But this season to date, it’s been a struggle. The Birds lost four of their first seven contests entering their Sunday showdown with the Jacksonville Jaguars at London’s Wembley Stadium. Doug Pederson’s club was coming off a 21-17 home loss to the Carolina Panthers in which the team squandered a 17-0 first-quarter lead
It would be a different story for the defending champions on Sunday overseas. But it still wouldn’t be easy as the Eagles held on for a 24-18 win over the struggling Jaguars. Pederson’s club got off to a rough start as Carson Wentz turned over the football twice on the team’s first two possessions. And the Birds did allowed Blake Bortles to throw for 286 yards and one score.
But Philadelphia got the stops when they had to and limited the defending AFC South champions to only 18 points and one touchdown. They totaled four sacks and got one crucial takeaway in the six-point triumph. The standouts were many for this team on Sunday. But what three players were the most pivotal when it came to the Eagles raising their record to 4-4 this season?
