Bears offense did a good, not great, job

The Chicago Bears pretty much controlled this game, but it still didn’t feel like a sure thing. When the Jets finally got a drive going (aided by a foolish Eddie Jackson penalty) and cut the Bears’ lead to 17-10. The Bears let the Jets hang around and now things were getting tight. Trubisky and the offense came through, however. They took the ball 79 yards in 4:02 that ended with a Jordan Howard two yard touchdown run.

Howard was the main man on that drive. He Carried the ball four times for 34 yards. He finished the game he had 22 carries for 81 yards and that game-sealing touchdown.

As I said, the Bears had a slow first half. Cody Parkey missed a 40-yard field goal on their first possession. After that, head coach Matt Nagy made a perfect call by having a screen pass on a Jets blitz. Tarik Cohen caught the ball and went 70 yards for the touchdown.

After that, though, the Bears struggled. They had three possessions in the second quarter and all of them ended in punts. In fact, they ran 16 plays that resulted in only 43 yards. They finished the first half with a 7-3 lead against a Jets team with a losing record, a rookie quarterback, and missing many key players.

The struggle carried over on their first drive of the second half when they had a five-play, 27-yard drive that also ended in a punt. After that, though, the Bears woke up. They scored on their last three drives, two of them touchdowns. They amassed 165 yards on those drives.

Trubisky ended the game completing 16 of his 29 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns. That ended his streak of 300+ yards at three. However, he now has a four-game streak of throwing two-or-more touchdown passes. He is progressing but still needs some learning to do. Not a bad thing, just that he needs more time.

Trubisky missed a lot of open receivers by either overthrowing them or throwing too wide. He does look like he’s handling the offense better, which is good. He made a beautiful touchdown pass to Anthony Miller at the back of the end zone. Now we just need to see him have a complete game. It’s nice to see him progressing.
