NFL Trade Deadline 2018: 3 Deals the Green Bay Packers should make
By Joe Kipp
The Green Bay Packers have a few needs at the midway point of the 2018 season. Here are three deals they should make before the NFL trade deadline.
It’s been an up and down season for the Green Bay Packers so far. Currently at 3-3-1, Green Bay still has plenty of room to grow and challenge for a playoff spot. Based on the NFC North’s current standings (Bears: 4-3, Vikings: 4-3-1, Lions: 3-4), you’d have to think 10 wins would be enough to claim the division title.
That leaves two more losses the Packers could endure, with seven wins needed to make a strong push for the division. As it stands, Green Bay could probably get by with what they have on the current roster, but in a crowded NFC they may be on the outside looking in when it comes to challenging for a Super Bowl berth.
Looking at the current landscape of their roster, there’s still a few holes that need to be filled. The Packers have lacked a consistent pass rush for much of the season so far, and could use more help at the safety position.
In fact, there’s rumors swirling around that starting free safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is on the trade block for the right price, a possible sign that general manager Brian Gutekunst isn’t willing to pay the fifth-year safety at the end of the season.
So who should the Packers target at the trade deadline? Gutekunst has made it known that the team is always looking to get better through whatever means possible — be it through the draft, free agency or via trade — so a possible trade shouldn’t be ruled out. There are plenty of players available at the trade deadline, and with the right strategy in mind, Green Bay may be able to acquire new contributors for the right price.
They’ll have to move fast though, as the NFL Trade Deadline is on Tuesday (Oct. 30) at 4:00 p.m. ET. With that in mind, here are three players the Packers should inquire on before the trade deadline ends.
