Shaquil Barrett, Denver Broncos

Shaquil Barrett has come a long ways since going undrafted out of Colorado State in 2014. Barrett, 26, has recorded 13 sacks despite only starting in 15 career games. He’s currently Pro Football Focus’ (subscription required) 23rd ranked edge defender, but sees himself lost in the shuffle at one of the Broncos’ deepest positional groups.

Behind Von Miller, Bradley Chubb and Shane Ray, Barrett is arguably the Broncos most complete edge defender. He’s often used as a situational pass rusher, but still excels at stopping the run. He’s also made a name for himself on special teams over the years, and even blocked a kick in Week 2 against the Oakland Raiders.

So far this season, Green Bay Packers edge rushers have been anything but productive. Clay Matthews and Nick Perry have had sluggish starts to their respective seasons, while Kyler Fackrell and Reggie Gilbert have produced like we expected — as backups.

In total, Green Bay’s foursome have tallied just 9.5 sacks, with Fackrell surprisingly leading the way with four sacks. The Packers have 23 sacks as a team. The lack of production from this group is very apparent, and it may be time to make a move for another edge rusher.

In the last year of his contract, Shaq Barrett may be available for a mid-round pick, which would be an excellent deal from the Packers’ perspective. If he’s available, Brian Gutekunst should pick up the phone ASAP.
