Seattle Seahawks: Russell Wilson, standouts from Week 8 vs. Lions
By Samuel Teets
The entire defensive line
Going into the game I predicted that Kerryon Johnson would finish with over 100 rushing yards. Boy was I wrong. Johnson only had eight carries for 22 yards, just 2.8 yards per carry. The Lions as a team only ran the ball 13 times for 34 yards, 2.6 yards per carry. The Seahawks defensive front intimidated and suffocated the Lions offense for most of the game.
The defensive line was also responsible for three sacks, one of which resulted in a fumble that Seattle recovered. The Seahawks also forced and recovered another fumble during the game. Seattle’s defense is becoming a major factor and will play a huge role in the team’s success in the coming weeks.
Many people were interested in seeing how the Seahawks defensive front would play this year, especially since defensive ends Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett both left the team during the offseason. The line seems to have found an identity though and has improved by leaps and bounds since Week 1.
Frank Clark and Jarran Reed have emerged as leaders along the defensive front and Clark has been especially active this season. With Clark being just 25 and Reed about to turn 26, the Seahawks defensive line is in good hands for years to come, as long as Seattle resigns Clark this offseason.
