Deone Bucannon, Linebacker, Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals have taken a strong front this offseason in regards to the trade deadline. Rumors have swirled around cornerback Patrick Peterson, linebackers Deone Bucannon and Haason Reddick over the past few months, but the later has played in 100% of the defensive snaps for the Cardinals over the past four games.

Bucannon has lost his starting role with the Cardinals due to a change in defensive schemes this offseason. Primarily a coverage linebacker in the past, Bucannon is stuck without a defined position in Arizona and has been deployed as a hybrid LB-safety this season.

Following a rib injury to starting linebacker Anthony Hitchens, sustained against the Broncos on Sunday, the Chiefs were forced to deploy rookies Dorian O’Daniel and Ben Niemann later in the contest.

While both O’Daniel and Niemann have shown signs that they could become strong contributors for the Chiefs, neither seem ready to start and take on major roles every week. Should Hitchens’ injury project to last multiple weeks into the later half of the season, a move to acquire Bucannon should certainly be on the table.
