5. Rams acquire Marshall Faulk from Colts

When looking at all the struggles surrounding the running back position for the Indianapolis Colts heading into the 1994 NFL Draft, selecting Marshall Faulk at No. 2 almost seemed like a no brainer.

Considering how quick of an impact Faulk made during his first two NFL seasons, as he found the end zone 26 total times, the Colts seemed to know exactly what they were doing.

One of the main reasons why there was so much hype surrounding Faulk was because of his elite receiving abilities out of the backfield. His 108 catches recorded in those first two seasons will back that statement up. In fact, Faulk’s final season with Indianapolis in 1998 saw him amass 2,227 yards from the line of scrimmage, showing once again just how much of a threat he was in general on offense.

With that being said, Faulk seemed to be dealing with a similar situation to the great Eric Dickerson when he was with the Los Angeles Rams, only this one was with the Colts.

Coincidentally, the roles seemed to be reversed this time around since it would be the Colts doing the dealing this time. They sent Faulk to the Rams, who were playing in St. Louis at the time ahead of the 1999 season.

The best part for the Rams is all they had to give up to land Faulk was a second and a fifth-round pick. As for how his first season in St. Louis turned out, well, becoming part of The Greatest Show on Turf, while going on to win the Super Bowl shows this trade was the best thing to ever happen to Faulk. This was only the beginning of a stellar career with the Rams, which helped him get to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
