23. Jared Goff, Carson Wentz go back-to-back in 2016

Back in 2016, the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns ended up with the top two picks in the NFL Draft. That being said, they didn’t end u keeping their selections since both teams received hefty offers they couldn’t refuse.

While the Los Angeles Rams moved up to the top overall pick to land former California star quarterback Jared Goff, the Philadelphia Eagles pulled off a surprising move of their own by trading up to No. 2 to select quarterback Carson Wentz out of North Dakota State.

In both circumstances, the Rams and Eagles were forced to give up plenty of draft picks, including future first-rounders. But when seeing how Goff and Wentz have quickly worked their way up to being two of the top quarterbacks in the league today, it’s clear the decisions by both teams were well worth it.

From Tennessee’s perspective, they gave up the top overall selection from that draft since when it came to the quarterback position, the team was already set with Marcus Mariota as their leader on offense.

As for Cleveland’s mindset with their decision to give up the No. 2 pick that allowed Philadelphia to take Wentz, well, let’s just say this seemed questionable at the time. It was odd given how desperate the Browns had been for a starting quarterback. They did eventually draft a franchise quarterback No. 1 overall in 2018 in Baker Mayfield out of Oklahoma.

Either way, when looking at how much hype there was surrounding Goff and Wentz before they even officially made it to the NFL, these two quarterbacks have already made it look like one of the best classes ever. As long as they continue to play at a high level, these two will be among the top players in the NFL for years to come.
