50 greatest NFL players of all-time
Considering all the records and awards currently attached to Drew Brees’ name, you’re probably wondering why he’s only at No. 46 on this list. It’s an understandable question, and it’s also one I will try to answer.
First though, I want to confirm that Brees has been nothing short of sensational during his 18 seasons in the NFL. A truly elite passer and proven winner, he took the New Orleans Saints from a team without a clear direction and turned them into one of the NFL’s most consistent contenders. Heck, he won them a Super Bowl only a couple of years after coming to town.
The list goes on and on: most career passing yards, most career completions, highest career completion percentage, most passing touchdowns in a game (tied), most consecutive games with a passing touchdown. I get it. You could also say that he’s a product of the era during which he plays and the offense he plays within.
In the end though, I just don’t see that same magic that players like Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady have. Yes, he’s a wonderful quarterback who will probably break a few more records before retirement. However, the lack of that ultimate “it” factor is why I have him right here.
