Marquise Goodwin

Goodwin had only one reception, but it marked the only explosive play of the day for the offense as he took it 55 yards for the 49ers lone touchdown. He also gained a step on Patrick Peterson late in the game and would have iced the game with his second score of the day had the Cardinals cornerback not batted away an underthrown ball from Beathard.

Goodwin is the only Niners receiver defenses would be forgiven for fearing. That is evidenced by the fact he leads San Francisco’s wide receivers in yards (259) and the entire team in touchdowns (4) despite only catching 12 passes in a year heavily impacted by injuries.

When the Niners get the ball in Goodwin’s hands, good things tend to happen. The problem is that with Garoppolo out they do not have a quarterback capable of getting it him on a regular basis.

Mike Person

The 49ers did not have as much joy in the running game as they usually do, totaling 107 yards as a team at an average of 3.5 yards per carry. However, when they did have success it came when they ran to the right. Mike McGlinchey is a big reason why, the rookie right tackle again dominant at moving people off the ball at the second level, but Mike Person also made a substantial contribution.

The veteran right guard received an overall grade of 89 from Pro Football Focus (per their Team of the Week) and, as well as excelling as a run blocker, put in stellar work as a pass protector. Person did not allow a single pressure in 35 pass-blocking snaps.

Perhaps the biggest bright spot from a dismal year for San Francisco has been the play of a reworked offensive line. Person provided further evidence of that with his Week 8 performance.
