Round 5: Youhanna Ghaifan, DT, Wyoming – 6-4, 282 lbs. (Listed)

  • 39 solo tackles (6.8 percent), 15.5 tackles for loss (17 percent), 7 sacks (21.1 percent), 2 forced fumbles in 2017.

While people were trying to sell the idea that Josh Allen was the only player that was good at Wyoming, they had a pretty tough defense last year. This year, many parts of it are draft eligible including junior Youhanna Ghaifan.

Ghaifan physically outstanding with his length for the position and his frame and impressive quickness. He’s still raw as a technical player and he’s been productive largely on the fact he’s just so much better physically than much of his competition.

Ghaifan shows an impressive get off and burst off the line, but so often, he falls in love with standing up, exposing his chest and trying to hand fight with the opponent while he looks for the ball. It’s a shame because when he stays low and fires off the ball, he is extremely difficult to slow down.

At times, he’s able to get away with standing up and use his hands to get past opposing blockers, but he needs to sync up his upper body and lower body while making it more difficult for opponents to get hands on.

He has a lot of tools and potential to be a nice pass rusher in the NFL, but needs a lot of coaching and development with his technique. Ideally, he’ll also end up a little over 290 pounds training for the NFL.

Assuming he declares, his competition and the amount of talent in this class along the defensive line could see him drop to a good value, but there’s so much to like with him and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see teams fall in love with his frame and measurables. Ghaifan is ideal for a team like the Browns that needs more depth at defensive tackle and more help rushing the passer as he learns the finer points, hopefully getting more dangerous attacking the quarterback and becoming more of a full service defensive lineman.
