Like many football games, the game between the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins will come down to who wins the turnover battle, and there may be a lot in this game.

We have a new bowl game, “The Battle for the Fewest Turnovers Bowl.” No, it doesn’t have quite the ring as the Peach Bowl or Rose Bowl, but that’s precisely what the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins will do battle in this weekend.

It’s very typical that the team that wins the turnover battle wins the game at all levels of football. That being said, the Jets and Dolphins come into their Week 9 matchup with 29 combined turnovers. That is the second-highest total among the 13 games played this week. The only higher one is the one between the Raiders and the 49ers, who had combined for 30 coming into Thursday night’s matchup.

This game is simple. Whoever wins the turnover battle will win the game on Sunday.

The 2018 season has been a mixed bag for both the Jets and the Dolphins coming into this matchup, as both teams have looked capable of competing in the AFC East at times, while looking like bottom-feeders at others. At the midway point of the season, however, both could use a win in Week 9 as they look to finish strong.

Prediction

Gang Green has been more opportunistic on defense though. They lead the Fins 15-14 in the takeaway category, but Miami leads New York in the turnover differential category by two (+1 to -1).

Since the Jets have more takeaways, and Brock Osweiler is prone to turnovers, the Jets will win the turnover battle and help their rookie quarterback with the field position battle. Shorter fields will lead to more points for Gang Green, and they will win a close battle. (Also for betting people, take the under.)
