7. New York Jets: Brian Burns, EDGE, Florida State

The New York Jets defense has played well, for the most part, this season. They’ve done so even without a great edge rusher on the roster. A lot of that has to do with the way head coach Todd Bowles runs his defense, but that doesn’t mean landing a premium pass rusher wouldn’t make life easier on the whole team.

Here the Jets do exactly that with the selection of Florida State’s Brian Burns. The ACC stud showed flashes as a freshman and sophomore but has really broken out in 2018 as a junior. Burns recorded 28 tackles and nine sacks in just eight games. That’s a career-high in sacks and he also already tied his best season for forced fumbles with three.

Burns is flying up boards thanks to this solid season he’s putting together and could push the Jets defense into the premier category. Having said that, it also may not be too surprising to see the Jets go for some offensive weapons to put around Sam Darnold.

The rookie quarterback is proving to be a solid playmaker, but he has to do too much on his own. If the Jets continue to try and run their defense without a pass rushing star, they could look to add some offensive line helo, or maybe a wide receiver. They have many ways to go here, but Burns could be the most bang for their buck.
