6. Drew Brees, QB, New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are one of the best teams in the NFL this season. A lot of that is due to a change in philosophy, and a lot of it has to do with the play of Drew Brees.

The Saints have run the ball a lot more this year than they have in recent years, and it has led to a resurgence of Brees. He’s on pace for the highest completion percentage of his career. Brees is the leader in comeback wins, interception percentage and completion percentage, and he’s also in the top 10 in touchdown percentage, total QBR and game-winning drives.

The reason he’s lower on the list is because it’s not all or even mostly Brees. A lot of his success is due to Alvin Kamara having 4.4 yards per carry and seven touchdowns. So, it’s not Brees or die on offense — it’s a total team effort, which knocks him down a spot or two in terms of value to the success of the Saints.

That said, not everyone can be put on the Saints and win the way Brees has. Brees deserves a lot of credit, though. So, he belongs on the list. He’s just the main cog in the wheel of the success in New Orleans.
