The New England Patriots host the Green Bay Packers in Week 9 on Sunday Night Football as two all-time great quarterbacks do battle.

The Green Bay Packers (3-3-1) face the New England Patriots (6-2) in the Week 9 edition of Sunday Night Football. Football fans are in for a rare treat as two future Hall-of-Fame quarterbacks battle in Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. This is only the second time the two quarterbacks have ever met as starters with Rodgers and the Packers winning a 26-21 battle back in 2014.

It’s been a strange week for the Packers. Playing in a wide-open NFC North where there is no standout team and the Packers just a half-game out of first place, Green Bay traded starting safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to the Washington Redskins on Tuesday.

The Packers also traded running back Ty Montgomery, although that made a little more sense considering Montgomery’s performance and behavior in last week’s gut-wrenching loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

Are the Packers giving up, or is it a chance for them to get some future draft picks for players they weren’t going to re-sign anyway? It’s doubtful Green Bay is giving up as it has Aaron Rodgers and when you have Rodgers, you always have a chance.

The Patriots are rolling again after a sluggish start to the season. After starting the year 1-2, New England has won five in a row and are back in control of the AFC East. The Patriots have looked dominant again on offense since the return of Julian Edelman from suspension and the play of rookie running back Sony Michel.

While Michel has missed some time due to injury, he’s a true dual-threat back that makes an impact in all phases of the game. Michel is questionable for Sunday night’s tilt.

Green Bay has the No. 12-ranked defense in the NFL but will have its hands full with Brady and Patriots on Sunday night. The Packers actually rank fifth against the pass, however, in their one true test against a top passing offense in Minnesota, they didn’t fare too well. Brady will test Green Bay’s young secondary on Sunday minus the veteran Clinton-Dix.

The Patriots rank No. 27 against the pass, meaning Rodgers should be in store for a big day. Davante Adams is having an outstanding season for Green Bay, but the Packers will be without breakout receiver Geronimo Allison on Sunday, who is out with an injury.

Prediction

It’s been a strange year for the Packers. They’ve seemingly played down to some teams, yet almost beat the best team in the NFL last week in the Rams. Part of the issue is Rodgers playing on a bad leg, especially early in the season.

Expect the Packers to show up on Sunday night with Rodgers having another phenomenal performance but it won’t be enough to stop Brady and Patriots. The game will come down to the wire as Rodgers keeps Green Bay in it, however, Brady will have the ball last and that will determine the outcome.

Final score: New England 34, Green Bay 31
