Round 3 (94th overall): Chase Claypool, WR, Notre Dame

When you look at the numbers, they will seem average, but you have to remember who the Notre Dame quarterback was early on in the season. When Brandon Wimbush was the team’s quarterback, due to inaccuracy, all the receivers’ numbers were low.

Once the Fighting Irish inserted Ian Book, the offense took off, and so did Claypool. Claypool is a reliable receiver who will catch the ball if it’s thrown to him accurately. He’s had at least four receptions in five of the last six games, and he has had at least five in the last three.

Claypool would give the Jets a big receiver on the outside who’s a quality route runner and can go get the ball if you need it. At 6-4, 227 pounds, he would provide the same mismatch issues that Quincy Enunwa does, but the difference is that Claypool would give the Jets more of a red zone threat due to his ability to get the “jump balls” in the end zone.

Is he the prototypical number one target that many believe the Jets drastically need? No. However, due to his size and strength, he would provide the Jets with another YAC monster like Enunwa, and that would be enough for the Jets offense to move the chains and put up points. The Kansas City Chiefs are winning with YAC, and so can the Jets.
